2. Describe your project (max 150 words)

DrawnTo is an AI-powered art prompt generator that is designed to inspire creativity rather than replace it. In a world where AI-generated content is on the rise, DrawnTo keeps human creativity in check, providing daily art prompts. Think of it as BeReal for artists, users are encouraged to share their raw, unfiltered creations, to foster a supportive and engaged community. AI is used to dynamically personalize prompts, to offer unique challenges that push users beyond creative blocks while never generating the art itself—instead, it suggests ideas, themes, and techniques to enhance artistic exploration. With an emphasis on community and spontaneity, users can discover artwork from others tackling the same prompt, to foster inspiration and engagement. DrawnTo isn’t about perfection—it’s about the joy of creating, sharing, and staying inspired in an AI-driven world.

3. Describe your research process and findings. If you conducted any surveys or interviews, please include the survey form and/or interview questions here. If you conducted secondary research by pulling from online sources, please include a link to your sources. (Max 500 words)

In developing DrawnTo, our team conducted extensive secondary research to understand the current discourse on AI's role in creativity. This research informed our design decisions, ensuring that our application supports and enhances human creativity without overshadowing it.

We explored various articles and studies discussing the intersection of AI and human creativity. A key concern identified is the fear that AI might replace human creativity. For instance, an article from Kellogg Insight highlights the potential threat of AI leading to "the potential death of human creativity."

Conversely, several sources argue that AI can serve as a tool to enhance human creativity rather than replace it. Psychology Today emphasizes that while AI can assist in various creative tasks, "the heart and soul of creative work—the unique human touch—remain irreplaceable."
Similarly, the World Economic Forum advocates for ethical standards and responsible innovation to ensure that AI elevates human creativity rather than sidelining it.

These insights revealed the importance of designing an application that leverages AI to support and inspire artists without diminishing the human element in the creative process.

4. Describe your most important design decisions. What research findings and/or user testing results led you to make these decisions? (Max 500 words)

  • AI as a Support Tool, rather than a replacement:
Research shows that many artists worry about AI replacing their creativity rather than enhancing it. Articles from Kellogg Insight and Psychology Today highlight this concern, arguing that AI should be designed to assist, not create ([sources linked above]). In response, we deliberately made AI-generated prompts the focus of DrawnTo rather than AI-generated artwork. This ensures that human expression remains central to the platform.

  • Spontaneous, Low-Pressure Creativity (Inspired by BeReal):
Studies on creative motivation emphasize that low-pressure environments lead to greater artistic engagement. Inspired by BeReal’s unfiltered approach, we designed DrawnTo to send daily prompts that encourage users to share their work without overthinking. Our goal was to eliminate perfectionism and make participation feel effortless, helping artists push past creative blocks.

  • Community-Driven Sharing & Inspiration:
Artistic growth thrives in supportive communities. Research from Psychology Today suggests that receiving encouragement and feedback from peers enhances creative confidence. To reflect this, DrawnTo allows users to see others’ interpretations of the same prompt, fostering a sense of connection and collective creativity.

  • Simple, Distraction-Free UI:
Overcomplicated interfaces can be a barrier to creativity. Our research into minimalist design (such as popular creative platforms like VSCO) reinforced the need for a clean, intuitive UI that lets users focus on creating rather than navigating complex features. This is why we prioritized a simple prompt display, easy sharing options, and a visually minimalistic design.
