Inspiration
Doing research, I learned that approximately 500 million people worldwide are infected with Malaria each year. I wanted a quicker and easier way to figure out if a given person had malaria.
What it does
With Project MalariaScan, a simple web app, one can simply upload an image of their blood cell and the algorithm can recognize and output whether or not Malaria was detected.
How we built it
Using python in Google Collab notebooks using a machine learning model.
Challenges we ran into
Working towards the best efficiency of the program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Can detect malaria at above 70% accuracy.
What we learned
Getting 100% accuracy is near impossible for an Artificial Intelligence machine.
What's next for Project MalariaScan
Hope to work towards a 99% accuracy and partner with some organizations to implement this to a larger audience.
