Inspiration
In India, thousands of children are born each year with Thalassemia, a severe genetic blood disorder. Most families face life-long challenges including finding compatible blood donors regularly, understanding treatment options, and connecting with affordable healthcare. We were deeply moved by the mission of Blood Warriors and inspired to build a solution that combines AI, social good, and real-world impact to support these patients and caregivers.
What it does
How we built it
an AI-powered assistant and platform that:
Connects Thalassemia patients with nearby blood donors in real-time using geolocation and donor history.
Predicts donor availability using past donation trends and sends intelligent reminders.
Offers multilingual patient education and awareness through voice/text chatbots.
Enables secure communication between patients, caregivers, and verified doctors via teleconsultation.
Ensures all data is encrypted and privacy-compliant.
Challenges we ran into
We used the following tools and technologies:
Frontend: React.js with Tailwind CSS for responsive UI
Backend: Python (FastAPI) with RESTful architecture
AI Models: Trained a lightweight donor prediction model using past donor data
Database: Firebase Firestore for real-time updates
Authentication: Firebase Auth with role-based access
Cloud: Microsoft Azure and Firebase Hosting
APIs: Integrated e-RaktKosh and geolocation APIs
Languages: Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS
Multilingual Support: Google Cloud Translation + Text-to-Speech for regional languages
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Lack of publicly available anonymized donor data for training predictive models
Optimizing performance for real-time donor matching on mobile networks
Designing an interface that's both easy for rural users and feature-rich for urban patients
Ensuring compliance with healthcare data privacy standards
What we learned
Built a working MVP in under 48 hours with end-to-end integration
Achieved accurate donor availability predictions with over 82% precision
Integrated multilingual chatbot experience with voice fallback in 3 languages
Simulated real-world donor–patient connections in test environments
Built with scalability and community integration in mind
What's next for Project Kisan: AI-Powered Assistant for Farmers
Onboard real donor and patient communities via partnerships with local NGOs
Integrate AI-based blood need forecasting for hospitals
Collaborate with Blood Warriors to support their Blood Bridge platform
Expand to support other rare blood conditions
Launch as an open-source social impact project to drive community contributions
