The Wildlife Traffic is one of the biggest threats to the biodiversity all over the world. Based on experienced problems by our team, our main inspiration was solving the problem of the authorities on not having an integrated platform to consolidate wildlife traffic data all over the country.

What it does

Identify, in real time, possible vehicles suspected of trafficking wild animals, using data collected from thermal imagers, which will be processed and sent to a IoT platform. This will allow the identification of routes off traffic and lead to a more effective management of apprehended animals on roads all over Brazil.

How we built it

The main technologies are the Thermal Imagers and the IoT Platform, which not only will get the images from the sensors, but also help the agents to file new cases, consult the law, create alerts on new suspects, consult an archive with data of routes and past apprehensions, identify correctly the animals and proceed with it's management.

What we learned

It will be very hard to integrate all the authorities all over the country in one platform, because it will request proper training by the agents to use the new tools. Besides, the cost of the equipment will be very high and will require a partnership between private and public organizations.

What's next for Platform Kauana

If the installation succeed, we'll be narrowing the wildlife traffic in roads by forecasting apprehensions and enhancing the efficiency on arresting traffickers and managing apprehended animals. With successful results, we expect to apply this technology in every possible route to stop wildlife trafficking, and this will not just require new people to fight the problem, but also demand the development of new and enhanced technologies through time.
