Inspiration
There is this new app that came out around august this year called gas, a poll-based app to compliment your friends anonymously. Being introverts as Kevin and I both are, we loved using the app. Though the idea was great on its own, Kevin and I felt like it was missing something. It was missing a party game mode! This anonymous theme is perfect for a game called mafia (which is where we got the name from)
What it does
Our website is a polling app (like gas) but with a twist, instead of just guessing who that "friend" who called you cute is in the polls, you can confront them! Through our anonymous chatrooms as well as party game modes like 20 questions and mafia. The thrill of trying to hide your identity( or trying to find that admirer) will keep you entertained for days on end. (it may also get you into a relationship!)
How we built it
We built our website using the python framework Django, where we also included HTML and CSS to make the website look visually appealing.
Challenges we ran into
ERRORS EVERYWHERE ! Having no experience with Django when we started to make the website, we ran into every possible error that we could have run into. From not being able to load in the template to not being able to call the poll_id, we spent 80% of our time just trying to fix the errors. Having lots of school work as the year came to a close also made it so that we couldn't start on the project until last Friday. My teammate wasn't very experienced with using git too so we weren't able to work together, we had to create our halves separately and try to somehow merge them at the end( it didn't work ).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the fact that we were able to create a working (kind of......not really) website using Django while learning it on the spot.
What we learned
How to use Django (kind of), how to calm down after encountering the 524th error after starting the project.
What's next for мафия
We will try to implement the party game and chats correctly, as well as make the polls actually work (we weren't able to call the id of the correct poll to vote). We will try and make the user info secure and have the user be able to customize their chats and themes.
