Inspiration

We were inspired by the design process of FIRST Robotics Teams where they break up a major challenge into many small "subsystems" and parts. Each members take control of managing and building certain subsystems and then coming together in the end to create the final product. This was our inspiration in how we created our final products, breaking down big problems into manageable sizes.

What it does

Robot: Our robot uses colour, light, and IR sensors to follow a specific track path while avoiding obstacles in its path. It can also use its claw mechanism to pick up boxes and transport them to their destinations!

DriveCode: DriveCode is able to take in any idea you can come up with in the car, even in the most awkward of moments, and turn it into reality with its AI powered development and listening capabilities. Have an idea? Just say it and we will turn it into reality.

How we built it

Robot: We used the Arduino kit and fundamental imagination to create our design and final product. Through dividing up tasks based on strengths and then coming together as one unit we were able to come up with a robot that could accomplish all of it tasks.

DriveCode: By collaborating as a team and using all tools at our disposal, we were able to make an AI driven product that was built and feels human. Our DriveCode feels more than just a simple tool to use, it feels integrated into the design process for an individual. It becomes a fundamental aspect of the great machination.

Challenges we ran into

Robot : The 3D printed parts kept breaking, especially parts of the wheels. We constantly had parts issues such as a motor wire blowing or the 3D printing parts being extremely flimsy but by dividing up tasks and roles, we were able to replace this parts on the fly and quickly. Another great problem we ran into was balancing software and hardware projects but again through our unique and stable collaboration we were able to work together to finish both projects.

DriveCode: During the development and trouble shooting of the bugs was a significant challenge. We constantly encountered into issues with potential solutions that just led to more issues. However, through never giving up and involving all team members in the solution process, we were able to solve each issue with a unique perspective.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Robot: All of us are first hardware hackathons participants and so we are just extremely proud of finishing the robot that functions and can accomplish all of the tasks needed. We are proud of just being able to finish it in a fun and creative way that we are all proud of. We are proud of how streamline and organized we were for first timers.

DriveCode: We are proud of being able to integrate AI into the future of idea development and integration. We are proud to tackle an issue faced by millions of people and provide and seamless solution.

What we learned

Robot: The main thing we learned from this project was really the importance of organization and making sure everyone is constantly doing something to make sure every nanosecond is spent doing something useful. The lesson about organization was not just about our team but also the robot from ziptying wires, to duct taping parts down, and much more, organizing the bot was not just for winning something but also to our workflow easier.

DriveCode: The main thing we learned from this project was how to integrate AI with other aspects of a project, along with exploring the uses of Gemini API and ElevenLabs.

What's next for Project Just Cruising, Don’t Judge, Kool Robot (J.C.D.J.K.R)

Robot: The next step for our dear robot Jeremy is to increase the speed of not just the physical parts of the bot but also its thinking and being able to think on the fly quicker. The next major step in its evolution is being able to react more humanlike and quicker precision. another thing we hope to add to the robot is to actually add 4 wheels whenever that's possible.

DriveCode: We want to integrate into baseline cars to streamline the set up process for users and we hope to expand it beyond cars, maybe showers, baths, right before you sleep, and much more. We hope DriveCode to be a like engine, powering endless possibilities in what it can do and where it can do it. This is the future.
