Project HTH (Helping the Homeless)

Inspiration

Helping the homeless with innovative solutions and enhanced readability.

What it does

It gathers resources from external sites and compounds them into subcategories for ease of access.

How we built it

We built it by integrating the Google Maps API software and also HTML, Javascript, CSS, etc.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into involved lack of knowledge regarding certain aspects of the project, making it so we had to learn as we went along.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of finishing this website and successfully implementing the resources we set out to, it was long and tedious but we gained a lot of knowledge and experience along the way.

What we learned

We learned how to program in teams, split up tasks, and learned more about the topic of homelessness in general through our research.

What's next for Project HTH (Helping the Homeless)

We plan on expanding our website and also developing an app which could utilize a mesh network to transfer data from one homeless individual to another, creating a larger web of communication and information transfer.

I helped develop the website and enhance readability. I also helped collect the resources and sift through them for accurate information. I was unfamiliar with the syntax and HTML behind the website construction but I learned as I went along and it was a rewarding experience. We worked really hard and put a lot of research behind the resources we chose, I really hope it helps alleviate homelessness.

Diljot Singh
Since I currently lack the programming experience, I mostly helped by researching more about the issues of homelessness and found a significant portion of the external sources. I edited the presentation slides and the website itself here and there

Kiet Pham
I worked on the integration of the google maps api into our website. I implemented several different google apis as well such as places and directions. This was my first time using javascript, html, and css so I learned on the go. This map will show all resources relative to helping out homeless people near the user.

Taha Hussain
I worked on creating and hosting the pmwiki and the goole map api and getting everything to work non-locally.

Oliver Seet
I worked on ideas for the community creating it to be more accessible to the most types of homeless people and non-homeless people. Also aided in debugging code when adding new conflicting API’s
