Inspiration

The honey badger project development is inspired to improve access to health technology in rural areas, to reduce the risk of people losing their lives due to the lack of medical health attention. The name of the project honey badger symbolizes the tough intent of the project to mitigate and weaken the lack of reliable medical services, the barrier between technology and medical services.

What it does

This project provides ease and simplicity in accessing medical services, it will be a free service for all to access. Since most individuals in rural areas have no access to information on medical care this project is going to help. It is a USSD based project where the customers dial in on any type of mobile phone and the services will be available to them literally at their fingertips. And it will ask for the location of the individual after that request, it will automatically alert the nearest medical care institution doctor directly and the doctor can easily be of help. It will consist of a broad database that will help with the allocation of the near medical and health institution doctor at service. Our project has the potential to aid in lowering the spread of the virus that the lack of knowledge and superstitious beliefs might lead to a further spread of the virus but project honey badger will also help in the spread of knowledge and a more hands-on consultation from the medical and health workers and the patients that are the customers.

How we built it

We built it using Africa's talking API despite facing some errors with the service

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we face were using Africa's talking APIs where there was quite a problem linking the services to our server domain (PHP) and communication was also one of the factors that made the project cumbersome. Furthermore, the hackathon was unfortunately set during the final examinations so this was a major problem in the project which led to miscommunication.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We improved our communication, improved our team working skills, knew what work s and when and the communication between us. The progress we made so far in the project.

What we learned

We’ve learned how different technologies work for some of us we never worked with some of the technologies used, so it is an honor working with the team and the organization that put everything of this hackathon together.

What's next for Project Honey Badger

What's next is for us to expand the services and aid the rural individuals to get more access to the medical and health services fast and reliable. We cannot wait for this service provided by our project to reach the people who really need it.
