Inspiration
It can be hard finding wait times for local hospitals and to remember a website name in the event of an emergency, thus leading us to create an app that would let us quickly check the wait times of each hospital nearby and let us bring a patient to care when every second is valuable.
What it does
The app will use your current location in order to find local hospitals nearby, where you can view the current occupancy and waiting times.
How we built it
The frontend was in SwiftUI and the backend was in Python.
Challenges we ran into
Scraping data from websites that required a lot of information to get from.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Nice UI was built, and were able to scrape good data for emergency wait times.
What we learned
We learned how to webscrape with Beautiful Soup in python.
What's next for Project Help-Care
To find alternative sources of data from US hospitals to give Canadians near the border the wait times for hospitals there and the rough cost of each surgery, so that they understand what the opportunity cost of getting a procedure in the US would be.
