Inspiration
Food scarcity is a growing issue within the United States. Texas has the second highest number of households facing food insecurity. The pandemic has only exacerbated the food and hunger crisis and currently 2 in 7 Texans face food scarcity.
What it does
Provides an organized, reliable system of locating food banks as well as temporary pantries.
How I built it
Created a React app utilizing Google firestore cloud database and Google maps API.
Challenges I ran into
Basics of web development. None of us had worked with Google maps before or were very familiar with firestore and there was a lot of functionality to implement in a short period of time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Ideating and iterating with a new team under pressure.
What I learned
How to collaborate and identify a MVP that was possible to complete given the time crunch.
What's next for Project Harvest
ADA compliance, Croudsourcing capabilities, reserve a pickup time.
