Inspiration
Our inspiration came from wanting to protect California’s Central Valley farmworkers by delivering life-saving heat safety and resource guidelines directly to the field.
What it does
Project Golden Valley is an AI-powered dashboard that gives growers and workers instant, multilingual advice on Cal/OSHA heat rules, irrigation troubleshooting, and rural shuttle routes.
How we built it
We built the application using an HTML/CSS frontend deployed on Vercel, paired with serverless JavaScript API routes connected to Google's Gemini 3.5 Flash model.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into significant challenges with syntax validation and parsing nested API responses correctly within our serverless function payload structures.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a fully responsive, field-ready mobile dashboard that successfully delivers real-time AI responses under 2 seconds.
What we learned
We learned how to structure robust asynchronous fetch requests in backend JavaScript and how to properly configure secure environment variables on Vercel.
What's nexNext, we plan to integrate live SMS text-messaging capabilities so workers without reliable mobile internet can still query our AI advisor from any field.
