Inspiration 🪄

While building this project, I was inspired to think about a world issue that needed to be solved. I wanted to contribute towards creating a solution for determining the potability of water, and brainstormed some ideas before coming up with my project.

What it does ⚙️

In essence, my solution to creating clean drinking water is a small, portable tool that can detect microorganisms through infrared light. Since microorganisms have a metabolism, by producing energy they are also producing heat. By simply scanning a small water sample, anyone can determine whether the water is safe to drink. This is important because it can help those living in remote communities without potable water, and can prevent the health issues caused by unknowingly drinking dirty water.

How I built it 🔨

I wrote some code in JavaScript and HTML to demonstrate how my product might function. I created the logo on Figma and used Canva and a banner from Playground AI for other design components.

Challenges I ran into ⌛

As someone with little experience in coding, this definitely challenged me while thinking of how to solve a world issue through a code-related project.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of ⭐

I am proud of learning more about JavaScript, since before joining Alice Hacks I only knew a little bit of HTML. I really enjoyed working on my idea, developing designs and attending the workshops!

What I learned 💡

Throughout this hackathon, I’ve learned a lot from both the workshops and my experience experimenting with code. Although I didn't use HTML to code a full website, I played around on Visual Studio Code and gained way more knowledge than I ever had before. I also learned a lot about creating NFTs, the crossover between engineering and entrepreneurship, using LinkedIn, applying for university and how technology and healthcare can intersect in fields like speech pathology. Overall, I've had a really great experience at my first hackathon!

What's next for Project Flow 🌊

Although I have an idea for a solution, my next steps would be to create a fully functional prototype and website. In addition, I could expand into a mobile app that allows users to easily see boiled water advisories and other important warnings near their location.
