We were inspired to create this application after seeing the physical and mental toll that recent events have been having on people's emotional state. A lot of people do not have family or friends to confide in. Simply asking someone how they are feeling can provide a support network, especially with the easy access of technology. We believe that something simple, yet effective, can have just as great of an impact on society.

What it does

Our app provides the user with meaningful and supportive quotes to help them get through their day depending on their mood. It has a very easy-to-use interface that allows the user to choose their mood on a scale from 1-10, and then prompts them to click one of two buttons. This will then output the aforementioned supportive statements to the screen.

How we built it

We built our app using the Xcode platform on Mac. We utilized the Swift programming language to allow noises, buttons, and processes output to the screen. The user interface was developed with simplicity in mind to be easily understandable and clear for new users.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a few challenges when creating this project. It was our first time using Swift, so we had to take some time to understand the fundamentals. We then had to understand the most efficient ways to bring our app to life. Another major challenge was adjusting to the virtual/online format due to current events. It was much harder to have the collaborative experience that would only be possible in person.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An accomplishment that we are proud of is that we were able to make an application using a language that we had never truly worked with before. Additionally, we enjoy the fact that our app is able to use simple processes to help people in their everyday lives and emotional states. Seeing the app come to life before us was a very rewarding experience.

What we learned

We learned that Swift and app design is a complicated, yet very useful skill to possess. Swift seemed to be much more difficult than our previously learned programming languages. Also, we began to understand that working as a team can allow for a much more polished product, and can help alleviate and distribute work loads.

What's next for Project Emotion

Some next steps for the future would be to implement more animations and accessibility features. We also plan to implement more tips/advice that could help the user live a more meaningful and healthy life. We intend to keep the app simple, but would love to see it grow!
