What Inspired Me The inspiration for Project ECH0 came from a realization that while we constantly measure the planet’s temperature, we never measure the human emotional temperature that drives it. Everywhere I looked, climate change was discussed in terms of data — CO₂ parts per million, degrees of warming — but never about how people feel. At the same time, I saw how stress, apathy, and hopelessness prevent people from taking action. That disconnect between emotion and environment made me wonder: What if we could make the planet feel alive again — through our collective emotions? That thought inspired me to design ECH0: a bridge between mental wellness and environmental consciousness. What I Learned Throughout the project, I learned that sustainability is as much about empathy and awareness as it is about science. I explored how psychology, AI, and data visualization could merge to create emotional feedback loops that encourage positive behavior. I learned to work with environmental APIs, basic sentiment analysis, and design interfaces that feel human rather than mechanical. More importantly, I learned how technology can act as a mirror — reflecting not just what we do, but who we are and how we collectively feel. How I Built It The project began with concept sketches and emotional mapping ideas. I designed a simple prototype where users could log their emotions and daily eco-actions. The backend model simulated how collective user data could generate a “Planet Pulse Map”, showing regions lighting up or dimming based on aggregated emotional and ecological harmony. I used mock datasets from global emotion-tracking APIs and environmental data sources to visualize changes on a 3D globe interface. Then I built an AI model (“Gaia”) that suggested actions — like going for a walk or journaling — to restore both personal and planetary balance.
