Inspiration
My inspiration was my older sister. She's a teacher and she is always struggling to make ends meet because she just isn't getting paid enough. Teachers do so much work outside of contract hours and it still just isn't enough. I wanted to make something that could help the education system and teachers in a way that makes teachers see that their job is something they can be proud of.
What it does
It's an e-commerce website, similar to Amazon, but when something is bought, the money goes straight to education funding. The price of the items is the amount that is added to the funds, but when buyers go to checkout, there will be two tax amounts, one is given to the businesses/sellers, and the other is just regular taxes. It also provides resources for people to see why funding is such a big problem, statistics that show how much Project E.F. can help with school funding (the statistics are estimates), and even provides links to other websites people can donate to help school funding as well.
How I built it
I used a website called Squarespace that allows you to use their website templates and mock-ups to make a website, but not publish it to Google. This allowed me to be able to make all the pages and make the website look exactly like I wanted it to, and it even allows me to see what the website would look like on mobile.
Challenges I ran into
A challenge I ran into was making sure that this website would help with school funding. I wanted a way that wouldn't affect much in the government but still make a big impact. I had a lot of ideas, but I think this idea was the best I could do so that huge changes in the government weren't made. Another challenge was creating the mock-up. There are so many resources for creating mock-ups, but using Squarespace made it so easy and straightforward to use.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of being able to make this mock-up in the first place. I'm proud that I was also able to create an idea that could be made sometime in the future and help the school system be the best that it can be.
What I learned
I learned that making a simple mock-up and researching can be long and hard work. I learned that teachers aren't getting paid nearly what they deserve and that teachers aren't the only ones suffering, it's the future generations as well. Our future leaders will be left with an education that is irreplaceable if Project E.F. continues to live on.
What's next for Project E.F.
Currently, Project E.F. can only ship things around the U.S.A. and also very few countries internationally because it only has 1 headquarters. In the near future, Project E.F. will be able to have headquarters all over the world, being able to help school systems not just in the U.S.A. but globally as well.
