Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from witnessing the masks and other objects littered in the parking lot across the street from my house. If even one person would stop littering or helped clean up after those who litter because of this game, I would be overjoyed.
What it does
In this game, your goal is to rid the town of any litter that you may come across. You can move using the WASD keys or the arrow keys, pick up trash with the E key, and throw it in the trash can with the F key.
How I built it
I build this game on the Unity Game Engine using C#.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges I ran into was creating the ability for the player to pick up the trash. It used many high level methods that I had not experienced before and required the help of the documentation and some YouTube tutorials.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I finished the game in just two days. It took a lot of work and was a stressful project to do alone, but I am proud that it is completed.
What I learned
I learned a lot about the Unity Game Engine. Spending nearly 3 hours on the documentation allowed me to discover many different objects and methods that are built into Unity that could be used in future projects.
What's next for Project Cleanup
I intend on adding a challenging element to the game with the addition of toxic pollution clouds that the player must dodge. I also plan on redoing the town as it is small and doesn't have defined borders due to the lack of time. I would also like to add a randomness effect to the game because in its current state, the trash always starts in the same position, while I'd prefer it be scattered across the map in random, but accessible, locations. Finally, I would add a proper UI, tutorial and menu screens, and a victory condition where you clean up the entire town.
