Inspiration

We were inspired by how overwhelming it can feel to find community at Boston College. Between endless club lists, crowded fairs, and inbox overload, we wanted to create a more personal, story-driven way for students to discover where they belong. We imagined a game that felt more like The Oregon Trail or Dungeons & Dragons—something reflective, fun, and meaningful.

What it does

Eagle’s Path is an interactive, choose-your-own-adventure game that helps Boston College students discover clubs that match their interests and values. As players make choices through college-inspired scenarios, the game uses logic and point systems to reveal their personality “cluster” and recommend fitting communities.

How we built it

We used Python and Pygame to build the game, starting in Replit to code the foundation and visuals. Because Replit only allows two live collaborators, we moved to Google Colab so the rest of the team could duplicate sections, insert narrative logic, and test the story flow. Two members focused on core structure and logic, while two others handled duplication, storyline integration, and testing.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was the collaboration limit in Replit, which made real-time teamwork difficult. Coordinating code versions across platforms also required strong communication. Balancing creative storytelling with functional logic was another challenge—but it pushed us to think both technically and narratively.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re especially proud of creating a visually cohesive and pixel-art inspired design, with functional buttons, smooth transitions, and an overall aesthetic and practical interface. We also built a unique logic system that bridges creative storytelling with meaningful personalization.

What we learned

We learned how narrative design, coding, and data collection can work together to create an engaging, personalized experience. We explored how personality, choice, and values can be translated into logic that recommends real-world communities.

What's next for Eagle's Path

With more time, we’d expand Eagle’s Path to dive deeper into each player’s interests, offering more personalized club matches and highlighting BC’s partner organizations on & off campus. We’d also love to include professors who volunteer to guide students toward labs, research, or projects that align with their paths. We would also love to make the program web-based in the future.
