Inspiration
We all come from families that take their time when buying motor vehicles. Buying a car is never a quick decision, as it takes time to pay off and provides incredible value to the household. Exploring this common process many of our families have faced, along with some inspiration from Toyota Financial Services' prompt, we decided we could build something better and more specifically, something that can simplify this complicated process of buying a new car.
.
What it does
In a nutshell, this application streamlines the car payment planning process and educates users on how their finances are translated into payment plans. When the user enters the application, they can look through various Toyota car models, including the Camry and other popular models. After selecting the car that best suits them, the user is directed to complete a short form, where they input their financial data, including their credit score and pay stub. This user is then provided a detailed financial advising statement regarding recommended payment plans optimized with their data. .
How we built it
We built the app using NextJS and Flask. Our frontend consists of React and TailwindCSS, which we used to develop an appealing and simplistic UI. The backend of our application is where most of the magic happens: it's where we process the user's custom data and generate an assistive and informative output that is then processed to be shown to the user engagingly. .
Challenges we ran into
Most of the challenges we faced were with the backend. Since we were dedicated to providing the user with an accurate and useful response, we had to train a machine learning model using data similar to the user input. This data was difficult to source, and it was also a challenge to decide exactly what we wanted to receive from our trained data. However, this process gave us a strong understanding of FinTech, which we hope to further explore.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're most proud of our integration of 3D models onto our website, especially because we were able to display a Toyota vehicle!
What we learned
Through this journey, we learned a lot about the vast field of FinTech, including the various considerations that go into financial decisions and the value that providing financial knowledge can bring.
What's next for Ignition?
We hope to continue adding more vehicle models to the application, in addition to an even more deeply trained model for more accurate real-time financial feedback. .
