Inspiration

The core idea came from contemplating the evolving role of generative AI in creative fields. We wanted to tell a story about an AI-created being (an android) using AI technology itself. The duality of "a story about AI, made by AI" became our central narrative and technological challenge.

What it does

This project, "Project A", is a short film created entirely with generative AI tools. It tells the story of Ji-yeon, a talented developer at a future tech company, who discovers her seemingly ordinary life is a simulated reality. The film demonstrates the capability of AI to not only generate compelling visuals but also to construct a cohesive narrative with consistent storytelling and high-quality cinematography.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

The biggest hurdle was maintaining consistency across scenes. Generative models often struggle with character continuity, leading to subtle changes in appearance or clothing. We had to implement iterative prompting and manual curation to ensure Ji-yeon looked the same throughout the film. Another challenge was achieving emotional depth and realistic expressions, as current models can sometimes produce a "blank" or unnatural look. Lastly, the sheer computational cost and time required for generating high-resolution video sequences were significant.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have successfully completed a feature-length narrative film using 100% generative AI. The film's final message, "This film was created 100% with generative AI," is a powerful statement about the technology's potential. We proved that AI can go beyond simple image generation and can be a powerful tool for complex, story-driven content creation. This project represents a new benchmark for what's possible in AI-assisted filmmaking.

What we learned

The project taught us the importance of creative supervision in AI-driven workflows. While AI handled the bulk of the generation, human oversight and artistic direction were crucial for maintaining narrative coherence and emotional resonance. We learned that the role of the creator is shifting from manual execution to a more strategic role of guiding and curating the AI's output.

What's next for Project A

Building on this success, our next step is to explore more nuanced and character-driven narratives. We plan to develop new AI models specifically trained for long-form storytelling to improve character consistency and emotional expression. We also aim to reduce the generation time and computational costs to make AI filmmaking more accessible. Ultimately, we envision Project A as the foundation for a new, AI-driven studio that empowers a new generation of storytellers.
