Murshidi In Hajj App Icon

Inspiration

The idea came from the fact that there are literally millions of people in the same place as you, and that's why it's next to impossible to keep your eyes on your guide all of the time, especially when you have someone other than yourself to take care of (e.g. children or elderly).

What it does

So this app steps in to save the day by allowing you to choose your chosen hajj campaign and your current hajj guide by means of following them on the map.

How we built it

We are using Android Studio integrated with Firebase in order to develop this free application using Java and xml as our main languages. We have also used Photoshop to design app logo and UI.

Challenges we ran into

Impelmenting Google Maps (None of the team had previous experience).
Finding a way to keep a realtime location of the guide (which was solved using Firebase's realtime database.)
My laptop's power adapter that decided to die just when my laptop was about to die. Luckily, the project was uploaded to a cloud storage service and i was able to continue where i left off.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Reaching an understanding about team mates' roles, with also stepping in to help each other whenever needed.
Using Google Sign-In instead of making the user (Guide) go through the cumbersome task of creating an account.

What we learned

Durability to work for continuous hours.
using Google Maps API.
Integrating Firebase with Android Studio.

What's next for مرشدي في الحج

Connecting the application with Firebase database to register guide info in order to use this info in tracking each guide of a specific campaign.
Adding a lot more camping sites for campaigns. Our goal is to include every found campaign camping sites and to also maintain it up-to-date. Thus, we also aim to include an option for campaign guide to update the locations of all campaign camps to facilitate the process of finding them by Hujjaj (People of Hajj).
Another goal in mind is to include bus stops and the current location of the bus by means of adding another role/actor in the application which is for drivers. Ultimately, enabling us to track the bus using the driver's phone. And of course, we are always happy to hear any suggestions or improvements we can make from you and for you =)
