Inspiration

We really liked the idea of the most memorable days of your life being captured in only a few pages! The popular physical line-a-day journals were a big inspiration for our website as we wanted to capture the original idea of short entries but add a new innovative edge with a website and linked map!

What it does

Every journal entry you make is saved and added to the map at the location you note with the entry, mapping out your memories and thoughts around the world!

How we built it

Using Visual Studio Code, our team used the coding languages Javascript, HTML, and react to code the brain and body of our website!

Challenges we ran into

Coding an interactive map was a part of the website, and we were unable to create a map that could draw data from the user's entries and add markers because of time constraints and since we were not very familiar with React. We had difficulties with formatting the nav bar but were able to get help from a mentor and ultimately decide to reformat our website for a better user experience. We also had some problems with finding team members in the first half of the hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we could come together and build an innovative and functional website for the modern traveler. We're also proud that we challenged ourselves with using React, which all of us were not very familiar with. We're also proud of working together on a team with new people.

What we learned

We learned how to make a better user experience with less confusing tabs in a nav bar. We also gained experience with React and with participating in a hackathon.

What's next for Save the Moment

Right now we have a placeholder data set in, since we weren't able to incorporate a function for the user to link their journal entries with locations, but with more trial and error, as well as experience with React, we hope to make it possible and create a dataset that updates with user input. We also hope to make it available on mobile and add in a login/account feature!

Notes

We ran out of time when creating our submission, so we included all of our answers to the asked questions here instead of underneath the listed questions. We also had problems with creating a Github repository, so we added our code as a Google Drive link below. Thank you for judging our submission!
