Inspiration

Preparing for technical interviews can often feel stressful, repetitive, and isolating. Traditional mock interviews lack dynamic, real-time adaptation to a candidate's specific pace, tone, and technical background. Descend was born out of the desire to bridge this gap by creating an intelligent, context-aware artificial intelligence interview platform that simulates real-world interview conditions, providing instant, actionable feedback to help candidates grow with every session.

What it does

Descend functions as an interactive, AI-driven interview companion. It presents technical and behavioral questions, evaluates user responses in real-time, and dynamically adjusts the difficulty based on performance. It offers comprehensive analytics, structured feedback reports, and targeted suggestions to help users iron out weak spots before stepping into an actual interview.

How we built it

he platform is engineered using a modern, high-performance tech stack:

Frontend: Built with React to deliver a responsive, smooth, and intuitive user interface.

Backend & Database: Powered by Python and FastAPI for robust, lightning-fast API handling, integrated with Supabase for secure user authentication and data management.

Cloud & Infrastructure: Hosted and deployed utilizing AWS cloud infrastructure for seamless scalability and reliability.

Challenges we ran into

Real-time Latency: Minimizing response latency during AI evaluation to ensure conversational flow felt natural and uninterrupted.

Dynamic Prompt Tuning: Fine-tuning prompts and backend evaluation logic to generate precise, constructive feedback instead of generic praise or criticism.
