Inspiration

Our inspiration for the project was actually from the experiences of one of our members, Ryan. He was working on a very intensive, stressful and important coding project when he got carpel tunnel syndrome. This unfortunate incident made him, and all of us reevaluate programming and health. Society perceives programming as a job without health risks but the experiences of Ryan and many other programmers around the world shows that taking care of ourselves should be our top priority.

What it does

What our application does is it reminds us, programmers, to take a break, and to ensure that we have an adequate amount of exercise, that we are sufficiently hydrated, and we have not lost ourselves in our work.

How we built it

We built it in a collaborative effort between the four of us, where we split off into two groups of two, each group working on a separate component. One group worked on the website and associated backend, while the other worked on the chrome extension. These groups then came together to create an integrate product that helps to keep us healthy.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was time management. Our application was quite complex for the amount of time that we were given, and thus we felt that we did not complete everything to our satisfaction. This includes our presentation and surrounding documents, which we felt we could have done better on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our product. There are many hackathons where due to time constraints or the complexity of the ideas needed to solve the problem, working products do not end up being made, and because of this we are very proud of our working product.

What we learned

We learned several invaluable lessons; about teamwork, about projects, about coming together and working hard. One of the main things we learned is that we need to rely on each other's strengths and weaknesses. Isaac, one of our members excels in website development and so we relied on him to complete our final product, whereas others were better at video editing or presentations and we were able to use those strengths to our advantage.

What's next for Prografit

We hope to better integrate our two solutions with each other, and have a product that is ready for launch. We want our product to be the go-to solution for programmers everywhere and our path on the road to that goal will involve a lot of hard work. But we feel that Prografit can make it and perhaps sometime in the future the next generation of hackers will be using Prografit while they are hacking to ensure that they aren't over exerting themselves.
