Inspiration
I’ve always been fascinated by the literature of H. P. Lovecraft, especially everything related to the horrors of the deep. Playing the role-playing game The Call of Cthulhu has also had a great influence on me.
What it does
Is an AI short film
How we built it
Regarding the creative process, the guidelines have followed the traditional steps for a project of this kind — idea, synopsis, script, storyboard, and so on. As for the production itself, I have tested practically all the AI tools available for generating images, video, and sound.
Challenges we ran into
AI content generation works based on probability, so achieving the desired shots and maintaining coherence has been quite a challenge. There is also some compositional work done through traditional post-production.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even if it’s not as “beautiful” or visually spectacular as many other audiovisual works flooding social media today, I’m very proud to use AI as a tool in service of creative will — and not the other way around. What I wanted was to tell a story in a specific way, and achieving that is truly satisfying.
What we learned
We’ve learned a great many things throughout the entire process, and I would highlight that, as of today, AI tools in the audiovisual field are still not ready to replace the entire creative process — but rather to enhance it.
What's next for PROFUNDIS
Time will tell... but if it manages to entertain those who have the chance to see it, and if it sparks enough interest in the story, the characters, and what happens to them — enough to be seen for what it aims to be: a short film, a small fable with shades of horror — then I’ll consider myself satisfied
