Inspiration
Our inspiration came from powerful command-line OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) tools like Blackbird, which are incredibly useful but often inaccessible to non-technical users. We saw an opportunity to democratize digital reconnaissance by creating a tool with the same power but with a simple, intuitive web interface that anyone can use.
What it does
Profile Scout is a web-based tool that helps users find a person's digital footprint across the internet. You enter a single username, and the app instantly scans hundreds of social media sites, forums, and online communities to find potential profiles. It presents the results as a clean list of clickable links, turning a tedious manual search into a one-click process.
How we built it
We built Profile Scout as a fully client-side, single-page application to prioritize user privacy and speed. The stack is simple and modern:
HTML5 for the structure.
Tailwind CSS for a responsive, utility-first design and the dark-mode theme.
Modern JavaScript (ES6+) to handle the core logic, fetch the website data from a JSON file, and dynamically generate the results without needing a backend server
Challenges we ran into
What's next for Profile Scout
The vision for Profile Scout is to become the go-to tool for digital identity discovery. Our roadmap includes:
Continuously expanding our database of websites to provide more comprehensive searches.
Introducing advanced search features, such as looking up profiles by email or phone number.
Developing premium features for teams, allowing for collaborative search and management of results.
