ProfFlow (Chrome Extension)
Inspiration from
Fireworks-AI's Mixtral MoE API RateMyProfessor.com
What it does
Chrome extension "ProfFlow" is a tool that will help students register for classes more efficiently by scraping ratings from RateMyProfessor and displaying the highest ranking teacher for the class.
How we built it
Built with Python within the Google Colab editor and AI companion Scale up with Fireworks-AI
Challenges we ran into
- Concept development and refinement (first needed to address each other's coding strengths and then what we can realistically finish in the competition time frame) - Effective Communication between group members (group consists of all first-timers for hack-a-thon so we had to learn as we went and adapt which also led to miscommunication and time gaps in terms of work efficiency) - Algorithm and variable inconsistencies leading to overall failure of the execution of the program (due to constraints imposed by the website scraping)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Learned new code language and advanced code in a matter of hours
- Effectively adapted and overcame roadblocks and issues with the code
- Learned to syncronize our workloads to simultaneously complete whole chunks of the project at once
What we learned
- How to syncronize our workloads on the fly
- To compartmentalize the workload for efficiency
- How to effectively communicate constructively with people we have never met
- How to efficiently ask for help with tight time constraints
- New code languages like python and MongoDB
