Inspiration

We've always been enthusiasts and avid users of Coda, leveraging it for work and personal projects. The opportunity to showcase our Coda templates and workflows to the world was truly exciting. Moreover, the ability to incorporate AI opened up limitless applications for Coda workflows. The inspiration for this specific challenge was a problem that all product managers, including ourselves, have to deal with - how to convert an idea into a product roadmap and backlog for our development teams and designers. Coda AI has simplified this process by generating ideas throughout our standard product development process.

What it does

Our Product Roadmap Generator is designed to utilize Coda AI to brainstorm features, epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria swiftly. With this tool, you can collaborate with your team to identify key features, prioritize them, and develop user stories with acceptance criteria that meet your customers' needs. The generator provides a comprehensive view of your product development process, enabling you to track progress and make informed decisions.

How we built it

We utilized out-of-the-box Coda functions, UI capabilities, and new Coda AI options. Coming from a product development background, we followed a lean approach - focusing on delivering minimum viable product that showcases value. Interestingly, this tool is intended to assist in building projects like this one.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we faced was designing the cleanest and simplest UI to mimic the workflow of product development, from ideation to user stories, while also allowing users to control AI-generated output. As we shared the doc more extensively, we received feedback that helped improve the product as part of continuous improvement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The most gratifying milestone was publishing the doc and receiving user feedback. It's incredibly rewarding to see our tool being used, appreciated, and deemed helpful. That's what product development is all about: solving user problems.

What we learned

Coda AI offers an efficient and intuitive interface that surpasses the typical ChatGPT interface. The ability to generate numerous ideas quickly significantly boosts creativity around innovation.

What's next for Product Roadmap Generator

We plan to expand this Product Roadmap Generator to cover the full end-to-end lifecycle of product development, from user research to competitive analysis, from assumption mapping to validation and discovery. Coda is a powerful tool for building and automating any workflow, and we're excited to see how AI can assist at each step of that process.
