Inspiration
We were inspired by productivity apps like FocusBean (By Hank Green) that use a bit of fun and creativity to not only help centralize your work, but also motivate you to do it.
What it does
ProDucktive accesses assignments from your Canvas and puts them into a prioritized to-do list. Users are also granted in-game currency for completing assignments which they can use to buy new ducks.
How we built it
We used Github Pages for the frontend along with the file management. We used an external server running apache to execute python code and do API calls.
Challenges we ran into
Accessing limited Canvas information from the API. Animating characters on a web page. Dealing with API requests timing out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Custom handwriting-like font along with custom drawn art. Fun and unique user interface.
What we learned
Everything takes longer than expected. We learned collaboration specifically via a very powerful tool, Github. We also learned about the distinctions and complications that come with the integration of frontend and backend development.
What's next for ProDucktive
A better UI. A more feature rich and integratable app, potentially linking with user's calendars for added productivity.
