Inspiration
With exam season over, we noticed an issue that plagued us was lack of productivity as a result of procrastination. We realized that students like us needed something to remind them that they're not spending their time productively while still being able to enjoy these activities to some extent. Thus, Prodo was born.
What it does
Prodo will first ask the user to input the URL of the unproductive websites the user frequently accesses. It will then ask for a time limit in minutes. This time limit is cumulative between all sites and once it is reached the user will be prompted to stop accessing the websites acting as a reminder that the user needs to pay attention to whatever important work is at hand. When the user has free time, they can reset the time by pressing reset, removing the websites from the extension, or disabling it entirely.
How we built it
We coded in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The primary API used was Chrome's storage API.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring that time was counting properly, the forms for adding and removing websites properly, and also ensuring that the extension would properly redirect the user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an Extension from scratch.
What we learned
We learned how to use different Chrome APIs whilst also improving our understanding of JavaScript. Our use and understanding of HTML and CSS drastically improved as well.
What's next for Prodo - The Productivity Extension
Adding time limits for individual websites rather than a global one, creating a database to visualize how much time was saved for users and how much time was spent procrasinating.
