ProcureWise – Project Story

Inspiration

The construction industry often struggles with inefficient procurement processes. Contractors spend significant time estimating material requirements, comparing suppliers, and creating purchase orders manually. These repetitive tasks can lead to higher costs, project delays, and human errors. We wanted to build a solution that uses Artificial Intelligence to simplify procurement and help construction teams make faster and smarter decisions.

What We Built

We developed ProcureWise, an AI-powered procurement assistant designed specifically for the construction industry. The platform helps users estimate material quantities, compare suppliers based on price and delivery time, receive AI-powered supplier recommendations, generate purchase orders, and monitor procurement activities through a centralized dashboard.

Our goal was to create a single platform that streamlines the procurement workflow from planning to purchasing.

How We Built It

We designed the frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a clean and user-friendly interface. The backend was built with Node.js and Express.js, while MongoDB was chosen for storing procurement and supplier data. We integrated the Gemini API to provide AI-driven recommendations and procurement assistance, and Chart.js was used to visualize procurement data and analytics.

The system follows a simple workflow:

Enter project details.
Estimate required construction materials.
Compare available suppliers.
Receive AI-based supplier recommendations.
Generate a purchase order.
Monitor procurement through the dashboard.

Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was designing an AI workflow that could provide meaningful procurement recommendations. We also had to organize multiple procurement modules into a simple and intuitive user experience. Balancing usability with functionality and planning how different features interact within one platform required careful design and iteration.

What We Learned

This project helped us understand real-world procurement challenges in the construction industry. We gained practical experience in full-stack web development, API integration, dashboard design, and applying AI to solve business problems. We also learned the importance of user-centric design, teamwork, and breaking a complex workflow into manageable modules.

Future Scope

In the future, we plan to integrate live supplier APIs, AI-based material price prediction, ERP integration, a mobile application, voice-enabled procurement assistance, and predictive analytics to make ProcureWise an even more intelligent procurement platform.

Impact

ProcureWise aims to make construction procurement smarter, faster, and more efficient by reducing procurement time, minimizing errors, improving supplier selection, lowering material costs, and helping construction projects stay on schedule and within budget.
