Tom's Note:
Unfortunately due to unexpected scheduling, Deniz Gülbaharlı was not able to aid Tom Rotbart in the ideation & creation of Procrastination Manager. Tom Rotbart is writing the rest of the Project Story.
Inspiration
For myself, ideas are the hardest part of any project I do. It does not help that I am sometimes a bit lazy and tend to procrastinate. This is why with 14 hours before the deadline, I still did not have an idea of what to do for my first hackathon. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to complete this project and I wished someone could just tell me how much time I needed to spend doing each step of completing a hackathon. So I decided to be a bit selfish and ideate something that would do just that!
What it does
Procrastination Manager is meant to create a time management schedule for any task someone provides it with. It would use unsupervised, non-parametric methods to learn how to create time management schedules for any situation!
Challenges we ran into
Due to unexpected scheduling and my lack of technical application of machine learning (which I started learning about 3 days ago as of this submission for the sake of this hackathon) building a prototype, or having a better visual was not possible.
What we learned
Something that I learned is definitely the importance of time management, how procrastination affects many different students mentally, and how difficult it is to come up with an idea that motivates me.
What's next for Procrastination Management
I am highly interested in furthering my knowledge and skills in machine learning and data science. I am open to developing a physical prototype for fun with anyone interested! I believe it is possible to create this application with the right skills and with some cooperation from people of interest who would be able to generate thousands of data points to train a model! Let us know!
