Inspiration The meditative nature of real bouldering - where success comes from understanding physics, body mechanics, and strategic problem-solving rather than speed or reflexes.
What it does ProClimber is a 2D physics-based puzzle game where players control a climber's four limbs independently to navigate climbing holds. The core challenge: both hands can never be free simultaneously or you fall.
How we built it Built with Three.js for rendering, Rapier2D for realistic physics simulation, and TypeScript on Reddit's Devvit platform. Each limb uses physics joints for natural movement and momentum generation.
Challenges we ran into Integrating WASM-based Rapier2D with Vite required custom plugins. Balancing realistic physics with playable controls took multiple iterations. Camera positioning for optimal 2D gameplay visibility.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Created a unique control scheme where each limb moves independently with realistic physics. Implemented the "one-hand rule" that makes every move strategic. Clean, minimalist aesthetic that focuses on pure gameplay.
What we learned Physics-based games require careful balance between realism and playability. WASM integration in modern build tools. The importance of clear visual feedback in physics simulations.
What's next for Proclaimber Level editor for community-created routes. Multiplayer racing modes. Advanced physics features like rope dynamics. Mobile touch controls for broader accessibility.
