Track: Pros eCommerce Challenge
Inspiration
Rocket Money is our inspiration. They curate an app that enables a consumer to cancel subscriptions from their app at the touch of a button. They do not have to go to the original subscription account anymore. Rocket Money curates the whole cancellation process.
What it does
ProCart streamlines purchasing for the consumer by pulling data from major eCommerce sites and creates an all in one place solution. Enables a universal shopping cart that can load in multiple retailer items that can then be purchased at the touch of a single button. ProCart will curate the purchasing process for the consumer and populate all shipping information in our app.
How we built it
We began with sketches that detailed the idea of the shopping cart displaying multiple retailers in it. We then created a Figma mockup of the mobile app user interface that we planned to write in react native. In the end, we launch an AWS Amplify app to host the front and backend of our website.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring the backend of our application was a huge hurdle. Once we download the CLI to interface with AWS Amplify, the documentation let us down when trying to set up the authentication, GraphQL API, the storage, and other APIs.
Another challenge we ran into was picking the platform. We initially wanted to have both a web and mobile version, but we started developing them separately, and in the end we decided that the web version showed off the concept we wanted better than the mobile. so we decided to put all of our efforts to the web version.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to finish a fully functioning navigation, search and cart section within 24 hours. With not much hackathon experience on our team being able to finish and be proud of the design and accomplishing many of the goals we set out with.
What we learned
Keeping the scope of the project in sight and what is and is not possible in the time limit. Knowing when to pivot despite already having time sunk into an idea that isn't working.
