Inspiration
Considering the critical issue of Covid-19 and the massive increase in terms of use of disinfectants and chemical cleaners, often environmentally damaging, we aimed at creating a safe, low environmental impact solution, safer for users and highly effective, that will make the difference in the existing cleaning procedures for wide-open external areas and surfaces. We started from our know-how in the formulation of concentrate beneficial bacterial blends, inspired by the multiple technical applications in which microorganism can be efficiently used and, last but not least, from the great skills of bacteria themselves in degrading organic substances.
What it does
The blend can be added to a cleaning formulation and applied in the cleaning of large areas, like streets cleaning, courts, squares, where dirt, organic substances and even waste are. Its microorganisms penetrate deeply into surfaces and degrade deposits, stains and organic matter, always source of bad smells, potential contamination, insects and pathogens. Beneficial bacteria contained in the solution will positively colonize surfaces and create a microbiologically balanced environment. Through biologic antagonism, beneficial bacteria reduce the growth of other potentially pathogenic organisms. The high potential of the blend is the flexibility of applications and combination with other compounds . A new way of deep cleaning of urban areas, like streets, parks, courtyards, where the activity of the good microorganisms starts on the surfaces and continues in sewages and municipal/civil wastewater treatment plants, helping the natural autochthonous biomasses in proceeding in the biodegradation of pollutants contained in effluents. Particularly during this pandemic situation, where the massive, necessary increase in the use of disinfectants and chemicals is affecting the proper functioning of wastewater treatment plants, where the overload of polluting compounds is damaging the biomasses and consequently causing malfunctioning.
How we built it
The solution has been developed starting from our internationally patented biotechnology BATP®, certified by several worldwide recognized institutions and laboratories, dermatologically tested, not irritant (to eyes, skin, mucosae), non-toxic, non- harmful, and does not show any pro-sensitizer potential. It has been successfully applied to tissue paper and even in professional cleaning formulations with excellent results, the product has shown its effectiveness in contrasting the pathogenic microbial growth biofilm. According to some scientific evidence the potential of the formula can be applied in several kind of systems combined with several agents.
Challenges we ran into
Finalizing the formula wasn’t so easy! Defining what and in which percentages of each ingredient to be combined in the biotechnology was challenging, especially considering that our aim was to find a “multipurpose” concentrate blend to be added to different kind of potential formulas combined with cleaners or sanitizing agents, on several kind of surfaces and applications with a keen eye on a safe, green formula. Creating a synergic team working flow and carefully organizing and dividing all tasks to get a mutual satisfactory result was really exciting.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
We could present an eco-sustainable solution, safe for users, active on the long-term, efficient, a complimentary product for disinfection protocols and also a valid alternative to traditional cleaners, not for polluting, but de-polluting the environment around us and for naturally contrasting the pathogens growth, aiming at a multipurpose “long lasting living” cleaning activity for large outdoors areas.
What we learned
Through this project we learnt the importance of considering several variant features that can have a huge impact on our lives, directly and indirectly, even if they seem to be necessary. We improved our research skills to find supporting documentation to our thesis and also to try to find a favorable solution for all stakeholders by minimizing the environmental impact.
What's next for BATP®?
Next steps will be starting a certification procedure for our new solution, which will be validated by efficiency and safety tests, educating the users to introduce this new challenging opportunity, clearly explaining the benefits towards humans, animals and environment through awareness-raising marketing campaigns applied to technical fields in cooperation with municipalities, institutions, cleaning services and communities. If we do not take care of our planet now, who is going to do that tomorrow?
