Inspiration
As climate change intensifies, the necessity for tools and solutions that tackle this problem is becoming more pressing. That is why we created Klima Hero, a multi-platform mobile application focusing on collaborative weather incident reports.
What it does
Klima Hero is a multi-platform mobile application with a focus on collaborative weather incident reports. With it, both citizens and city authorities can report weather incidents and prevent further damage.
How we built it
We built both the backend and the frontend from scratch.
The backend is programmed in Python and runs a FastAPI server that serves the data from an SQLite database. We used public APIs, such as Bright Sky (https://brightsky.dev/), for the data. The frontend makes use of React Native and serves the data coming from the backend in a user-friendly way. For the map within the app, we used primarily MapTiler (https://www.maptiler.com/), which consumes OpenStreetMap data.
Challenges we ran into
We really implemented a lot for a short time, which was a technical challenge on its own. We also had to coordinate this with the development of the idea, as well as coming up with a good pitch.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Hey, the demo works, and it's glamorous!
What we learned
Coffee, Mate, good Food, and a beer here and there can really keep you going forever. But seriously, everything comes down to good teamwork and collaborative effort.
What's next for Klima Hero
I guess we are about to find out.
