Inspiration
Our inspiration for the Pro Planet Person app came from a desire to make environmental conservation more accessible and community-driven. We wanted to provide a platform where users can share eco-friendly activities, discover local events, and track environmental efforts, creating a space for people to collaborate in making a tangible impact on the planet.
What it does
The app enables users to post and share eco-friendly activities, stay informed about local environmental events, and join nearby clean-up drives and awareness programs. With calendar integration, users can seamlessly add events, allowing them to stay engaged in conservation efforts and inspire others to join.
How we built it
We developed the backend with Flask, handling requests and managing data securely. Neon DB was chosen as the database to store user activities, events, and calendar entries efficiently. The frontend was created using HTML and CSS, focusing on an intuitive and engaging design that promotes ease of use for users of all backgrounds.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges included integrating calendar functionality, managing data synchronization across devices, and ensuring smooth interactions between the frontend and backend. We also encountered a learning curve with Neon DB’s data management, requiring careful debugging to maintain data consistency.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of successfully implementing a user-friendly calendar feature, providing a seamless way for users to track environmental events. Additionally, creating an intuitive interface that simplifies eco-friendly engagement has been a rewarding achievement.
What we learned
Throughout the development process, we learned valuable skills in full-stack development, particularly with Flask and Neon DB. We also gained insight into designing user-centric features that drive community involvement, along with managing data effectively for event tracking and calendar integration.
What's next for Pro Planet Person App
Moving forward, we plan to incorporate more interactive features like leaderboards for eco-friendly actions, in-app notifications for event updates, and a map view for locating nearby events. We aim to make the Pro Planet Person app a central hub for community-driven environmental change.
