Inspiration
I wanted to reimagine the Polish People’s Republic (PRL) through the lens of artificial intelligence. The goal was to capture the atmosphere of the era — smoky apartments, old furniture, a touch of absurdity, and nostalgic melancholy.
What it does
PRL AI generates visuals and audio that reconstruct the feeling of living in communist-era Poland. It’s part digital art experiment, part historical curiosity, allowing people to experience or revisit the unique mood of the PRL.
How we built it
The project was built using generative AI models for both images and sound. Visuals were created with diffusion-based AI tools, while background sounds and voice layers were produced with AI audio synthesis. The result is a short film entirely generated by artificial intelligence.
Challenges
Capturing authenticity while using modern AI tools. Balancing historical accuracy with artistic interpretation. Ensuring the output felt consistent rather than random AI generations.
Accomplishments
Completed a full AI-generated short film. Successfully recreated a specific historical atmosphere with modern tools. Showcased how AI can be used for cultural and historical storytelling.
What I learned
I discovered that AI can be more than a technical tool- it can also serve as a creative partner in reinterpreting history and culture.
What’s next
Expanding PRL AI into an interactive experience where users can “walk through” AI-generated PRL locations, listen to conversations, and immerse themselves even deeper.
