Inspiration

All of us have a background and shared interest in cybersecurity, and having the opportunity to create something that will help the average user to be more aware of what is being done with their data is a feature we're really proud to showcase.

What it does

Privvy will be your personal privacy assistant. It will be a Chrome extension that detects "Privacy Policy" and "Terms and Conditions" links in your current tab, and it will be able to summarize and detect red flags on them and inform you about that.

How we built it

We used Chrome's Manifest V3 as our extension's framework for client-facing and UI features. For our backend we're using Supabase along with Typescript and Deno as the runtime.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was definitely accessing the actual policy and agreement information, as many websites make you go through many redirects and a lot of unnecessary stuff on purpose. So we had to find a way to move around these unnecessary steps to get to the real important information, and by achieving that we have a fully functional MVP of what Privvy is.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishments are both being able to accurately read and access the policy information about most websites despite the challenges that involves; and on top of that, creating a service that will be completely user agnostic and will not manage/store any user data, fully embracing our approach of being a "privacy first" service.

What we learned

First of all, we learned how to securely implement an agentic workflow into our software development cycle. We also learned what using Supabase was like, which was a new tool for all of us. And of course we learned how to create a secure, private, and user-first service that will raise privacy awareness while not handling or storing user data in any way, being loyal to Privvy's principles.

What's next for Privvy

There's a world of possibilities for Privvy, we're planning on improving the automation of policies summarization and red flags detection. We're also looking to broaden our infrastructure and having a more robust and scalable service. This is just the beginning to what will be a great tool for everyone!
