Inspiration
Traditional corporate and community governance tools force a painful compromise: either expose individual voter choices (inviting social pressure and bias) or rely on a centralized authority to tally results in secret. I wanted to build a decentralized voting dApp that guarantees absolute ballot secrecy while remaining cryptographically verifiable.
What it does
Private Poll allows organizations to run secure, transparent governance votes on the Midnight Network. It uses zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to let verified members prove they are authorized voters without revealing their identities, encrypts individual ballots end-to-end during the voting window, and cryptographically seals public tallies until the official close.
How I built it
- Frontend: Built with React, Vite, and styled using Tailwind CSS for a clean, responsive interface.
- Privacy Layer: Integrated Midnight Network's zero-knowledge architecture for secure cryptographic eligibility checks and private state handling.
- Version Control: Managed my code repeatedly and deployed straight through GitHub.
Challenges I ran into
Handling zero-knowledge credential verification workflows while keeping the user experience snappy and intuitive for everyday users was a major hurdle. I also had to streamline my component layout to ensure high reliability under tight hackathon constraints.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Successfully building an end-to-end zero-knowledge voting flow.
- Designing a clean, modern UI with React and Tailwind CSS.
- Shipping a complete, functional MVP for the Midnight Network ecosystem within the hackathon window.
What I learned
I gained deep practical experience working with zero-knowledge paradigms, managing ZK eligibility proofs, and building privacy-first decentralized applications.
