Premise Private Eye is a neo-noir, psychological thriller, crafted exclusively for virtual reality to fully immerse you in the gripping, fragmented narrative of the mysterious Detective Sam Sunderland.
Enter the shattered world of a man who was once one of New York’s most promising rising officers.
Following an accident which has left you grappling with retrograde amnesia and paralysis of the lower body, you must investigate the series of murders now darkening your doorstep and unravel a case tangled between the decades.
Gameplay Evolving the point-and-click genre for VR, Private Eye places visual exploration at the forefront, using environmental storytelling and character interaction to deliver it’s filmic narrative. Investigating the world around you and interacting with items is key to discovering the clues which will transport you into the mind and memories of the character you have become.
One item in particular will prove vital to solving your case: a pair of binoculars. Observing the darker side to the enticing windows of suspect neighbours reveals back-stories and motives, as they unknowingly air their dirty laundry. Your challenge comes with finding ways to affect the situation from afar.
As your exploration of the outside world deepens, your memory becomes clearer. Clues in the present reveal glimpses at your past, as your investigation turns back on yourself.
Answers may only lie just beneath the surface, but the mind is fallible. If you forget everything else, remember that.
Aspiration Our reason for making Private Eye is to bring a cinematic, narrative-driven experience to your Virtual Reality headsets, as we believe these type of experiences will be the most powerful and lasting. Many of our key influences have thus come from film.
Described as ‘Rear Window‘ meets ‘Memento‘, we wanted to combine the narrative suspense and atmospheric style of modern day psychological thrillers with the noir aesthetic fitting to the era.
We want to transport you from just ‘playing a game’ to deliver a much more accurate sense of ‘playing the lead’ in your own story, with real power to discover and shape the narrative.
