Inspiration
Seeing the rise in privacy breeches and companies misusing user data, we wanted to make a software which makes it easier for everyone to understand company privacy agreements and know if it is safe to agree or not. We all have to admit, it's darn hard to ready those agreements. I mean they are thousands of words long!
What it does
Privacy Savers is a software designed to help users protect their online privacy. It works by analyzing privacy policy agreements from various websites and apps and detecting key flag words related to potential privacy issues. These flag words could include phrases such as "Marketing," "third-party sharing," or "Research," among others, as these words are very ambiguous and could potentially be used for the wrong use. Once Privacy Savers detects these flag words, it alerts the user with a warning message, letting them know about the potential privacy risks associated with using that particular website or app. The software also provides users with information on companies which have used similar words and how they misused user data in order to help the user make more informed decisions.
How we built it
We built it with the Python RAKE library and html.
Challenges we ran into
Having enough time to reform the model and make it better, while also having better data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to help people be more safe and have a more informed decision.
What we learned
How to use RAKE python library and how many numerous cases there are of data misuse.
What's next for Privacy Savers
Expanding this idea to reality.
