Inspiration
The demand for openness and control over internet privacy prompted us to establish Privacy Police. As users, we saw how often websites exploited data without explicit authorization. With growing concerns about trackers, data breaches, and dark patterns, we aimed to create a tool that provides customers with actionable insights into website privacy.
What it does
Privacy Police analyzes the privacy and security practices of websites in real time.
How we built it
We created Privacy Police utilizing the
- Gemini Nano Built-in API for security and privacy analysis.
- The Chrome extension includes JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Content Scripts for dynamic analysis of webpages.
- A simple and straightforward UI/UX that allows for seamless interaction.
- A simple and intuitive UI/UX for seamless interaction.
Challenges we ran into
- Integrating Gemini Nano API efficiently to handle large amount of data.
- Processing and displaying privacy insights without overwhelming the user.
- Ensuring compatibility across various websites and handling edge cases.
- Balancing real-time performance with accuracy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
- Successfully implementing a Privacy Risk Score that condenses complex data into actionable insights.
- Building a simple and user-friendly interface within last 2 days as we got to know about the hackathon on 1st December.
What we learned
- The importance of clear and actionable data presentation for user trust.
- Integration techniques for using built in APIs in browser extensions.
- Privacy concerns and the complexity of analyzing third-party scripts dynamically.
What's next for Privacy Police
