Inspiration

Many people lack access to reliable printing and scanning services, which creates barriers for students, job seekers, and everyday citizens. I was inspired to bridge this gap by creating an accessible network of Print Hubs that makes document processing easy and affordable for everyone.

What it does

The Community Print Hub Network connects users to local printing and scanning services through a simple mobile app or web interface. Users can upload documents, select a nearby hub for pickup, and see the status of the print job.

How we built it

I developed a user-friendly frontend interface for document uploads and Print Hub selection. The backend uses the Epson Connect API to handle print jobs, authentication, and communication with local Epson printers. We also integrated a simple job status tracking system.

Challenges we ran into

I faced challenges integrating secure authentication with the Epson Connect API and ensuring reliable communication between the backend and printers. Additionally, building an intuitive interface for a diverse user base required careful design considerations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I successfully built a functioning MVP that bridges the digital divide and provides real value to underserved communities. The solution can be scaled to more locations and supports both printing and scanning services.

What we learned

I gained in-depth knowledge of the Epson Connect API and learned how to build a scalable service architecture for managing remote print jobs. Additionally, I deepened my understanding of user needs for accessible document services.

What's next for Print Hub

I plan to expand the network to more locations, introduce payment and subscription models for increased accessibility, and add features such as document editing and advanced scanning. The goal is to make document processing seamless for everyone, everywhere.
