Inspiration
The inspiration behind PriceWise was the desire to address the common challenge of fluctuating prices on Amazon, creating a tool that empowers consumers to navigate and capitalize on dynamic pricing. The goal was to develop a solution that goes beyond conventional online shopping, particularly benefiting minority groups by providing them with a tool to make informed and cost-effective purchasing decisions.
What it does
PriceWise utilizes Next.js 14 for the frontend, MongoDB for database management, and a web scraper to fetch product information from Amazon. The tool tracks and analyzes product prices in real-time, notifying users of optimal times to make purchases, thereby maximizing savings. It brings a data-driven approach to online shopping, helping users, regardless of their background, make the most of available discounts.
How we built it
We built PriceWise by leveraging the powerful capabilities of Next.js 14 for a responsive and dynamic user interface. MongoDB served as the backbone for storing and managing historical price data, ensuring efficiency and scalability. The web scraper component was implemented to fetch live product information from Amazon, providing users with up-to-date and accurate pricing details.
Challenges we ran into
While developing PriceWise, we encountered challenges related to web scraping, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining compliance with Amazon's terms of service. Additionally, integrating Next.js 14 with MongoDB presented some complexities that required careful problem-solving. Overcoming these challenges strengthened our technical skills and determination to deliver a robust solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have successfully implemented a real-time price tracking tool that not only meets the technical challenges but also aligns with the theme of providing consumer tech solutions to assist minority groups. The seamless integration of Next.js 14, MongoDB, and web scraping showcases our commitment to creating an innovative and user-friendly solution.
What we learned
Through the development of PriceWise, we gained valuable insights into the intricacies of web scraping, database management with MongoDB, and the latest features of Next.js 14. We deepened our understanding of the challenges in the e-commerce space, particularly concerning price fluctuations, and honed our problem-solving skills to address these issues effectively.
What's next for PriceWise
Looking ahead, we plan to enhance the user experience by incorporating more personalized features, such as user-specific preferences and advanced notification settings. Additionally, we aim to explore partnerships with other e-commerce platforms, broadening the scope of PriceWise to provide comprehensive price tracking across various online marketplaces.
