Inspiration
Having a background of working with multiple independent game developers, who are struggling to find a proper audience for their game due to lack of market research
What it does
Using Pricing and Demand data from Steam and third party APIs we are able to compare and contrast new games with other competitors. We are able to categorize these new games into clusters based on certain common factors, such as genre, game size, intended audience etc
How we built it
The heart of the project comes from our knowledge of Steam APIs which collects an aggregation of relevant data from nearly any game on Steam. Using this data we are then able to process this information into the metrics we deem relevant to determining optimal price and maximizing revenue.
Challenges we ran into
The largest difficulty came from the lack of historical data provided by Steam, which resulted in us having to create an alternative model for analyzing price insights, instead using competitor data to fill the missing gaps
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to create and estimate a data model in a limited amount of time is no easy task, let alone having to properly connect those data insights in an presentable manner with a functional UI
What we learned
We learned how to work with APIs to obtain the data we need and how to process that data using back-end technology, finally we learned how to use Next.js as a framework for our front end development.
What's next for PriceValve
Further developing and refining our data model to better increase the accuracy of our price suggestions. A lack of historical data is an issue which can be resolved overtime through scraping sales data from Steam directly. Fine tuning and implementation of more advanced data models will also be essential over time
