Inspiration
Online shopping has made buying products easier, but choosing the right product has become increasingly difficult. People often spend a significant amount of time switching between multiple marketplaces such as Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Meesho, and IndiaMART to compare prices, ratings, reviews, and offers. We wanted to simplify this experience by creating a single AI-powered platform that not only compares products but also helps users make smarter purchasing decisions. This inspired us to build PricePilot, an intelligent shopping assistant powered by Google Gemini.
What it does
PricePilot is an AI-powered shopping assistant that aggregates product information from multiple online marketplaces into one unified interface. Users can search using either a product name or natural language queries like "Best gaming laptop under ₹70,000." The platform displays product images, prices, ratings, reviews, and available offers while Gemini analyzes the data to recommend the best overall option. It also summarizes customer reviews, compares products intelligently, and explains why a particular product is the best choice.
How we built it
We built the frontend using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS to create a responsive and modern user interface. The backend was developed using FastAPI and Python. We integrated SerpAPI to retrieve live shopping data, including product information, pricing, ratings, and images. Google Gemini API serves as the intelligence layer, understanding user queries, analyzing products, summarizing reviews, comparing offers, and generating personalized recommendations. The application is deployed on Vercel for fast and reliable access.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was obtaining accurate and consistent product data across different marketplaces. Each platform presents information differently, making it difficult to standardize product comparisons. We also faced deployment challenges while configuring API keys and ensuring that live data worked correctly in production. Another challenge was filtering irrelevant search results and improving the quality of AI recommendations so that users receive meaningful comparisons instead of generic responses.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built an intelligent shopping assistant that combines real-time product data with AI-powered decision making. Instead of simply comparing prices, PricePilot understands user intent, summarizes customer reviews, recommends the best value product, and presents everything in a clean and intuitive interface. We are especially proud of integrating Google Gemini to transform traditional product comparison into an intelligent shopping experience.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we gained hands-on experience with integrating the Google Gemini API into a real-world application. We learned how to combine live product data with AI reasoning to create meaningful recommendations. We also improved our skills in building scalable full-stack applications using Next.js and FastAPI, handling external APIs, optimizing user experience, and deploying production-ready applications.
What's next for PricePilot
We plan to make PricePilot even smarter by adding real-time price alerts, price history tracking, AI-powered price prediction, coupon and cashback optimization, personalized shopping recommendations, voice-based search, multilingual support, and a browser extension that compares prices automatically while users browse shopping websites. Our long-term vision is to build an AI shopping companion that helps users save time, save money, and make confident purchasing decisions with a single search.
