Inspiration

Every single day, grocery stores and local bakeries discard massive amounts of fresh food. While many businesses try to mitigate waste by offering end-of-day clearance discounts. The problem is, Late-night clearance discounts miss peak shopping hours, so food still gets thrown away. Meaning lost profit margins for small business owners. Meanwhile, consumers want affordable options, but late-night runs rarely fit their schedules.

We saw an opportunity to connect eco-conscious, budget-smart shoppers with retailers through dynamic, data-driven pricing, benefiting both business bottom lines and the planet.

What it does

F-freshie is an intelligent freshness and dynamic pricing ecosystem that bridges the gap between food retailers and consumers.

For Retailers: The platform automatically adjusts product pricing throughout the day based on uncontrollable factors like food freshness, foot traffics, and current weather. It also generates optimized product pages complete with nutritional details and preservation tips.

For Consumers: Shoppers set preferred price ranges and freshness tiers to find exact matches for their budget and cooking timelines. An integrated AI Food Assistant delivers tailored purchasing recommendations and personalized meal plans to help shoppers make the most of discounted ingredients.

How we built it

We used Javascipt for the frontend interface and backend algorithms design. We used API keys to deploy a well trained AI assistant.

Challenges we ran into

The dynamic price adjustment algorithms is hard to design as it is difficult to quantify what factors really affect costumors willingness to buy fresh products and how do we measure them, meaning struggles with modelling this problem.

Eventually, we solved the problem by giving costumers more degree of freedom on costimizations, and using simulators to stimulate possible future price trend and possible lost of freshness through time.

What's next for F-freshie

Supermarket apps integration, with receiving notifications on price changes on favorite items, along with a dashboard tracking total carbon footprint reduction and money saved. We also want to refine the meal prep suggestions, combo choices with reasonable prices.
