Inspiration

At Save Young, our journey began with a shared passion for creating positive change in the digital world. We were driven by a simple yet powerful belief: every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from the dangers of online exploitation and grooming. That's why we embarked on a mission to develop Save Young, a groundbreaking parental supervision tool designed to protect children from potential grooming behaviors and online exploitation. With our app, we aim to empower parents with the tools and knowledge they need to safeguard their children's digital lives and ensure their safety in an increasingly interconnected world.

What it does

Save Young is a powerful parental supervision tool that utilizes advanced AI technology to protect children from potential grooming behaviors and online exploitation. Our app analyzes messages and account activity on social media platforms, flagging suspicious interactions and alerting parents in real time. With Save Young, parents can stay informed and proactive, ensuring their children's safety in an increasingly digital world

How we built it

Once we received our high-fidelity designs for the app, we started building a click through prototype for the SaveYoung app. We used technologies like Next.JS and Chart.JS for the front-end, and we deployed this app on Vercel so that users can access our app on mobile and web browsers. Ideally, we would have loved to use Meta's APIs to pull a child's Direct Messaging and Follower information and use APIs like TensorFlow JS and Google Vision AI's SafeSearch Detection for AI analysis, but we encountered a few technical challenges limiting our ability to do so within our time frame.

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary challenges we faced in developing our app was the need to work with multiple social media platforms' APIs. We originally wanted to pull in messages from Meta (Instagram, Facebook) and run AI on those messages, but the APIs limited our ability to do so.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our ability to work together as a team to complete the design, prototype, and demo video within the timeframe given.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the dangers of sex trafficking and how a large portion of those victims are children. We also learned more about different AI tools and how AI can be leveraged to detect and stop sex trafficking.

What's next for SaveYoung?

SaveYoung would love to move from a prototype to a fully functioning application. We would like to build out additional features, including the following:

  • Allow users to successfully connect their children's accounts to SaveYoung
  • Utilize TensorFlow JS and Google Vision AI to run AI analysis
  • Ensure our AI models work for detection in multiple languages
  • Allow parents to adjust which AI features they would like to turn on for their children
  • Provide an App Support section to our app
  • Move from a web app to a mobile app that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
