Inspiration:

We created Preventia to help young adults and kids stay engaged with their health in a way that feels accessible, interactive, and relevant to their everyday lives. Too often, preventive health information feels overwhelming or easy to ignore, so we wanted to build something that encourages users to stay informed and take action before problems become serious.

What it does:

Preventia has two main sections: a checklist tab and a gamified tab. The checklist tab provides preventive health measures that users can follow based on factors such as the community they live in, their age, their gender, and the kinds of diseases currently affecting their area. The gamified tab makes the experience more engaging by motivating users to stay consistent and involved with their health habits.

How we built it:

We built Preventia using Flutter and Firebase as our main tech stack. To make sure the information in the app was trustworthy, we gathered health guidance from credible sources that are used by doctors and medical professionals.

Challenges we ran into:

One of our biggest challenges was scraping and organizing information from different websites. Another major challenge was building features like the leaderboard, which required extra work both technically and in making it fit smoothly into the app experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

We are proud that we successfully built the leaderboard and created an app that feels strong, functional, and meaningful. More importantly, we built something that has the potential to make preventive health information more engaging for younger users.

What we learned:

We learned that building an app takes a lot of patience, especially when dealing with coding issues and unexpected technical problems. We also learned how difficult it can be to find health information that is truly credible, since so much of what people consume online comes from weak or unreliable sources.

What's next for Preventia:

In the future, Preventia will continue expanding its features. We want to make the gaming tab even stronger and more interactive, while also making the test tab much more personalized based on user history and Gemini-powered recommendations.
