Inspiration

I am on LinkedIn and I see that everyday someone is grabbing some opportunity that I never knew of initially. They are opportunities like internships, workshops, scholarships and competitions like GSB Hackathon which I am lucky to know about. So I went down one day and made list of all such events that happen annually and I realized that there are a lot of them and a lot of them specially for girls. It is very difficult to keep track of such opportunities so I decided to solve this problems in my first Hackathon.

What it does

It keeps all the women about all the opportunities that are around its just this has to update them about it !

How I built it

So I used flutter development which involves the usage of Dart language. I used Firebase for the Backend. Authentication takes place through Firebase authentication service and the data about the internships is present in cloud firestore whenever I will update any change to the data in firebase it will update every user about it. And it also provides features for updating your personal details.

Challenges we ran into

A lot of the (phewww!)

  1. linking the google-services.json file with the android. I sort of had to discard my first project and rebuild it because this error.
  2. A lot of null check error. (Dart has a lot of them I believe). A question mark was the only problem which I solved in 1-2 hour.
  3. A lot of overflowing errors
  4. Dependencies errors!
  5. Null-safety issues

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  1. I have a better command over firebase now
  2. I know how to link firebase data with flutter apps
  3. I can work for like 20 hours straight
  4. I thought of giving up in the middle when I was receiving a lot of errors and I had no team to be sorry to about giving up. And I have achieved not giving up

What's next for Pretty Tough

I want to learn making an API to give more better linking but firebase also is cool! There are a lot of things that I though of adding but could not because of time constraints like : blogs for women in STEM and even lifestyle blogs section, Section for women posting their thoughts and achievements. There is a section for mentoring as well where girls can directly text their queries. We can have daily reminders, exercise and water reminders as well to make it more comprehensive.
